If you were a paragraph of text, what would the paragraph say to describe itself?
I have Aspergers Syndrome, I am a seeker of a better job; I've functioned as a Test Tech II at a charger manufacturer till they downsized again. I am a folk musician/singer/songwriter; activist for affordable healthcare. I am also, in my music trying to reach out to autistic community.
On Jan 2, 08 this autie took a brave step. At Meadowlark Coffee & Espresso in Lincoln NE my turn came to come on stage, I went to the house piano, (started a chord run in Ab) "Tonight I will do a song by the late Sammy Davis Jr, I've Gotta Be Me. All my life I knew I was different, but didn't always know what the heck it was. I've coped, and much of the time managed it very well. Recent circumstances forced me to come to terms with it. I have Aspergers Syndrome, a mild form of autism. Yes, I am autistic, and not ashamed of it anymore. This is where I've obtained my incredible compassion to become the healthcare for ALL Music Guru. But, ultimately (Started introduction in C) I've Gotta Be Me." Than I sang the Sammy Davis Jr Classic, "I've Gotta Be Me."

Do you belong to a particular religion? If so, which one?
Born Again Christian, Assembly of God
What food do you absolutely HATE?
Never gave much though, Probably Limberger Cheese
If tomorrow was yesterday, would you do it the same?
Mostly the same. If I went back again, I would study more on line of nursing, or in the medical; or else get a bachelors degree in Electronics.
What's the best date you've ever been on?
As a married person I try to keep courting days in our marriage. My lifetime best dates are with the one I am now married to. I love my wife very much; and she loves me, and accepted this autie just as I am.
Describe your ideal person:
Haven't given much thought; I guess, my wife Sharon.
Sharon is my wife, my lover, and my best friend.
Our Real Ideal Person ultimately is Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This Christmas season we observe Our Lord coming to earth in the flesh, as a baby. Emanuel, God With Us.
You're hanging out with friends and having a good time. What are you doing?
I'm at the musicians open mic event, getting ready to sing some of my original songs
5 things you're really good at:
Bench work technician stuff. Musician/singer/songwriter and accompany myself with piano or guitar. I see healthcare crisis through my aspie eyes.
I am an activist for affordable healthcare, advocate HR 676.
AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE IS A RIGHT!
5 things you're not so good at:
Customer relation. I would like to get local group advocating healthcare reforms; but fear someone else would have to lead. Social functions; at one time feared it would defeat my privilege of marrying.
What is your theme song?
The Healthcare Musician, by John "Hai" Knapp
When the revolution comes, what will you be doing?
I would try to take the side that gives the poor equallity with the rich. Affordable Healthcare is a RIGHT! regardless of size of paycheck, condition of your health (even if you have pre-existing conditions), race, religion, national origin, or even if you have Aspergers Syndrome; limitations may make it harder to obtain a job that is living wage and benefits bearing.
thank you for the welcome, Hai, wasn't sure about where my gut was leading me when I joined, but people seem nice so far.
I'm really just learning about asperger syndrome irl as opposed to articles and am not sure if I belong here, but something seems to click
Hello John! And thank you for the welcome. I very much appreciate it. Girl Anachronism is by the band Dresden Dolls. I like them because they have a different way of writing as well as the piano is a main instrament they use. The drums, cello (bass), violin and piano are my favorite instraments. I try to stay away from anything with a spit valve ;) Ive learned my lesson from when I was a young teenager lol.
Thanks for welcoming me to the site. You asked about Canadian health care. What many people don't know is that we don't have one, universal Canadian health system; each province (there are ten provinces) and territory (three territories) has its own system. It certainly has its advantages; no one goes broke from unpaid medical bills. No one is going to lose their home because they spent their mortgage payment on lifesaving health care. Employers can't hold employees hostage by saying "you'll lose your health care benefits if you quit/get fired." An American friend of mine is facing bills of up to $10,000 for cancer treatment, and she has insurance through her job; this is what I guess they call a co-pay. A Canadian friend who had the exact same cancer and exact same treatment didn't have to pay a single dime.
There are flaws with our system, but there are flaws with any system. It doesn't cover dental care, for instance, and I've had a raging toothache for months with no money to get it fixed. It doesn't cover physiotherapy, massage, chiropractic, or things like that. It doesn't cover psychotherapy, but it does cover psychiatry. When I wanted to get a diagnosis of Asperger's, the health system would not pay for the a psychologist to do the assessment.
However, I would take this system any time over the U.S. (lack of) system.
