If you were a paragraph of text, what would the paragraph say to describe itself?
In a world full of people I never felt like I fit in anywhere and those with whom I ever felt kinship seemed to run the opposite direction. My motto is "better late than never" because to finally find out, even in middle age or older, that there are others who feel as alien as you do, and to understand why... that's priceless.
Are you on the autistic spectrum?
diagnosed
Are you in a relationship?
married
Gender identity?
female
Sexual Orientation?
other
Age?
42 (43 in June)
Where do you live?
North America
What are you here for?
for friends, meeting in real life (possibly)
What do you do for work?
Webmistress (web design, hosting, SEO, etc.)
Do you belong to a particular religion? If so, which one?
My beliefs are Judeo-Christian, but no... I don't claim a particular religion per se.
What food do you absolutely HATE?
Lima beans!!!
If tomorrow was yesterday, would you do it the same?
No, I probably would have meandered a little less, talked a little less, and worked a little more (I only get paid if/when I work...)
What's the best date you've ever been on?
Date? What's a date? LOL
Describe your ideal person:
Quirky like me, accepting, kind and tolerant. Quick to forgive and forget... possessing faith but not a religious spirit. Quiet. I like quiet people. Calm, because I'm always anxious and to have a calm presence near me is soothing. Adept at massage but recognizing that I don't want to be touched without invitation. Oh... and a good cook! I love to eat.
You're hanging out with friends and having a good time. What are you doing?
Taking turns playing songs we wrote, usually. But among non-songwriting friends, perhaps sharing something intoxicating or taking kids to the movies/beach/park. Maybe even having a barbecue or campout... although I have not been camping in over 20 years. As I said before, "better late than never"!
5 things you're really good at:
1. Writing
2. Singing
3. Talking (notice I didn't say 'speaking')
4. Offering encouragement
5. Dreaming (often aloud...)
5 things you're not so good at:
1. Persuading
2. Being patient
3. Waiting my turn without interrupting
4. Anything which requires quick thinking: I have a processing problem in addition to the AS, so I like to have time to deliberate.
5. Tolerating evil
What is your theme song?
Hey Hey We're the Monkees LOL No, seriously, Leonard Cohen's "Bird on the Wire" but with my revisions.
When the revolution comes, what will you be doing?
Praising God that I lived to see the day. Doing my part in every way.

Of friends and friendship

The world makes a big deal out of friendship, and while I consider it important, I'm not so sure that it's necessary that friends be of our own species. Animals can make excellent companions, and unlike humans they will never judge us, misunderstand, or scheme behind our backs to cause mischief for us. At least... not intentionally. They may, however, hold a grudge - if you are abusive, or harm them. If you do that, you deserve their wrath, in my humble opinion. Animals were not given to us fContinue

"Oh no you're not!"

That's the reaction I get from about 5-10% of the people I tell I'm Autistic.

"You can't be!" they say, cringing in dismay, "you don't flap your hands."

So?

"You can talk!"

So?

"You laugh at jokes!"

Well, not always, but... so?

So these people who have no clue think they're experts. Why is that? Who are the ones most likely to argue with me about whether or not I have Asperger's Syndrome? Very simply: those who are the most like me. Those who resemble that remark, as they say. In other

Hi Lydia :) I agree about "better late than never". I did not find out about asperger's or that there were other people like me until I was 38.

I also make websites for a living. I like the way you explain things on your site.
