Hello folks. I found the site through Aspie Hangout as I have slowly been exploring the AS related sites.
I never know what to write in these so I will just say that I am a 38 year old man that was DX'd a few years ago by my most recent in a long string of Psychologists. That is the quicky version. For the longer version, please continue but feel free to skip!
I had been in therapy on and off since I was 20 for various social challenges and finally a few years ago someone nailed down what was going on with me (after having tried so many drugs and odd therapy models that I feel like I have earned a minor degree in the field).
I was a "gifted" kid growing up; always in the special schools and classes with all the accelerated learning programs etc. That kept me from having a lot of social interaction that I think proved difficult for other Aspies but when I essentially finished High School nearly two years early save two classes, I went pretty wild until settling down with a girlfriend who I later married until we divorced.
I did some clinical medicine work in cardiac surgery and respiratory therapy before being offered an IT job with better pay and a needed change at that time. I have been working in cardiac research and hospital electronic medical record areas for the last ten years or so where I have found a good fit in a niche area.
I greatly enjoy literature in the Sci-Fi and Fantasy genres along with the classics and a special penchant for plays. I also like film of all flavors and a few areas of music. I try to play guitar but fail often. I love to sing but I am the only one. ;) I try to write but that is quite hit or miss.
Unlike many Aspies I have met so far I do OK in social settings (and truly enjoy them) but have most of my difficulty in hyper sensory experiences. My largest fault to hide is some trouble with Prosopagnosia in face to face interaction (I do OK with photos and film but still not great).
It is very nice to find another community where I may be able to get to know other Aspies. Thank you for the opportunity.
